in 2002 both lucette feith-quarles van ufford and
my uncle jan
asked me to visit them in france
small problem: lucette feith lives in south-west of france
and my uncle jan in the south-east at the rivièra
folly and i decided to make it a tour of the country
it has been an absolutely fabulous experience
we travelled to the perigord, the dordogne, to toulouse
then to grasse, at the rivièra
and on to the french alps, where we stayed at annecy
on the way back we stayed at luxembourg

the picture at the opening page of this chapter
was taken the first night of this trip, at blois
our first destination was bouteilles st. sebastien
we spent almost a week at lucette's
we travelled around from there of which perhaps
the most interesting trip was the one we made to st. emillion
where we sat on a terrace and saw the only other large poodle
we met during our entire trip

and we also walked the fields
of grapes of pomerol, something i really wanted to do
because pomorol is to me
one of the best experiences in wine one can get
we had wonderful time at lucette's
and her dogs geordy and jack
and stayed much longer than the originally planned three nights
then we moved on and visited the dordogne
amoungst which the quaint town of rocamadour
and cahors where i got phonecalls from holland

because it was
my birthday, then
while we were at the mont st. cyr, overlooking medeaval cahors
where it was so unbeleavably hot
that i had to find a place to swim for folly
which we found down in the valley at the river near cahors
next (same day) we travelled on to toulouse
where i got more calls from holland while sitting on a terrace
and where we walked along the river
where - later - i left folly at the hotel room
to visit some of the great museums
and to go out to discotheques with my friend jean-marc
(whom i - years before - also promised to visit at his city, toulouse)
we spent five days at toulouse
