abused as he had been before, he was quite afraid
at times after he lived with us;
it took him several years to trust people completely,
but after a few years he felt master of the house and walked
in the living room to join me and visiting friends - people or dogs!
ed was supposed to stay here for only two months (in 1996), after which he was to be taken home to finland, or any other place with his previous owner,
but that guy left holland and never came back for ed;
ed then became part of our household
at first there were only: ed and folly
because i left home so often with folly, i wanted a companion for ed, so in 1998 nub joined our household
after folly died in 2004 lotte came to live with us
while nub was always close to folly, strange enough ed became very close to lotte: sometimes they'd sit head to head, exchanging... what? |

| above left: first meeting of ed and nub in 1998 (nub arrived in this box; yes, this is, sorry, the same box as one can see at ed's death at the vet's, june 2009, below); middle: first day: ed quite pleased with this new arrival, and at right, several years later, happy with lotte; below left and middle: always trying to be with lotte; below right: beautiful ed |

a lovely and very big cat
it was for him that i gave another cat my house as a home:
in 1998 nub joined us so that ed had a true companion all the time in case folly and me went out
from day one ed accepted nub as a good companion
later when lotte came:
ed loved to be with lotte |

this picture was taken only three days before ed's death june, 2009, at our terrace - no idea of what was about to come within a couple of days
ed enjoying the sunshine, here with lotte, perfectly healthy, and looking at me (taking the picture) thinking "who can harm me when i am sitting here with my companion lotte?"
only a couple of days after this scene, the evening of june 12, 2009, i left home - late in the night - with lotte for her evening walk, when we came home we found ed in the hall at the bottom of the staircase: paralyzed from the waist down; next morning we go to the vet, but nothing can be done any more: he'd had a stroke |
